To be drenched in ice water, the body reacts quickly to the shock - TopicsExpress

To be drenched in ice water, the body reacts quickly to the shock of the cold. For a split second, the body is frozen by the ice, momentarily paralyzed like an ALS patient, if only for a tiny millisecond, and then the brain sends a rush of messages down the spine to make the body move and respond quickly, something ALS patients cannot do. Thus, the ice bucket challenge is symbolically very appropriate way of raising awareness for ALS because it subconsciously makes people hyper aware of their own bodies and muscle control.
