To commemorate Singapore’s ratification of the World Heritage - TopicsExpress

To commemorate Singapore’s ratification of the World Heritage Convention, a unique and beautiful orchid hybrid has been named the Dendrobium UNESCO, to signal Singapore’s support for UNESCO’s important mission. This lovely compact orchid hybrid is vigorous and free flowering, with dark bluish purple petals and sepals in a lighter hue. Did you know that Singapore has a long-standing tradition of orchid research and hybridisation? In a small way, we contribute towards the conservation of world heritage and biodiversity by protecting and reintroducing critically endangered species of native orchids back to nature. The orchid is one of our national symbols, and this is a significant gesture to demonstrate our commitment to conserve world heritage and biodiversity. Orchids have been named after state dignitaries such as Paravanda Nelson Mandela and Dendrobium Margaret Thatcher, and after distinguished organisations, such as the World Trade Organisation. Do visit the National Orchid Garden at the Singapore Botanic Gardens to see more of these outstanding orchid hybrids.
