To date, The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) has invested more than $1 billion in research to advance therapies and save lives. Thanks to research, survival rates for patients with many blood cancers, like my brother Chris, have doubled, tripled and even quadrupled since the early 1960s. Despite these advances, about one third of patients with a blood cancer still do not survive even five years after their diagnosis. More funding is needed to bring better therapies to patients, and faster. It’s been 1 year, 8 months and 12 days since we first heard Chris had cancer. Today, he still actively battles his disease with monthly chemotherapy, though you would never know it if you met him. It’s easier for us to look at the road ahead in fear, but instead we CHOOSE to believe. Today we are HOPEFUL. Today we are HAPPY. Most importantly, today we are GRATEFUL for organizations like LLS that work so tirelessly to the end of blood cancers.
