To date she remains the only female in the history of the sport to win both IRONMAN 70.3 and IRONMAN World Championship titles in the same year. Her name is Leanda Cave and she is the next of our #Kona9 athlete profiles. The tall, elegant and highly professional Leanda Cave is on the Big Island with her partner Diaa Nour as support and no doubt many others. When asked when she knew that she was bitten by the sport, the answer was clear when I started winning. And that just happened to be at my first race ever. A natural born winner, Leanda rode her bike 20 km to and from school everyday because it was quicker than taking the school bus. And thats the spirit she carries with her today. In 2012 Leanda was the first woman in history to win both the IRONMAN World Championship in Kona and the IRONMAN 70.3 Championship in one year. With a background of swimming when growing up in Australia, this discipline is according to Leanda herself, her strongest. With 11 diagnosed stress fractures in the past, running has been quite a battle at times for the fit Brit, who had always thought she would be a fashion designer until she fell in love with triathlon - and it fell in love with her. Since Leandas favourite races are the ones she wins, she loves racing Kona. Leanda is riding a Canyon Speedmax, fully equipped with CeramicSpeed wheel bearings, bottom brackets and pulley wheels. Leandas race number is 111.
