To demolish is to build. In the long history of Chinas architecture evolution, there hardly exists the notion of perpetuity. Preservation is a product of Renaissance archaeology to create strong bonds between materiality and history; Whereas in ancient China, where historical continuity is achieved mainly through written record, architecture, as all other physical forms, is subject to the changing cycle of being demolished and reconstructed. Imagining Beijings cityscape in 2080, the video questioned the boundaries of preservation, demolition, renovation and (re)construction.What is indeed more important to keep?
