To demolish is to build. In the long history of Chinas architecture evolution, there hardly exists the notion of perpetuity. Preservation is a product of Renaissance archaeology to create strong bonds between materiality and history; Whereas in ancient China, where historical continuity is achieved mainly through written record, architecture, as all other physical forms, is subject to the changing cycle of being demolished and reconstructed.
