To everybody in AK that was complaining about the decrease in COLA - TopicsExpress

To everybody in AK that was complaining about the decrease in COLA recently....You know that PFD yall are collecting with zero intent to stay in Alaska? Put it in the bank instead of spending it all by the end of the week. Cola decrease solved. Just sayin For those of you that dont know what a PFD is, its a big ole chunk of money that every Alaskan resident gets each year from the Pipeline Dividend. Lots and lots and lots of military residents changes their legal residency mainly to collect it while they are there. We never did....wanna know why? Because unless you have intent to STAY in Alaska PERMANENTLY, youre not supposed to collect it. (Direct from the states page regarding PFD eligibility To be eligible for a PFD, you must have been an Alaska resident for the entire calendar year preceding the date you apply for a dividend and intend to remain an Alaska resident indefinitely at the time you apply for a dividend.)..Our turning point was going to be our IPCOT. If approved, wed start collecting it. If not, without knowing what would happen..we didnt feel right about collecting it. Technically, we probably should have been banking that extra cash because we did have intent to stay...but we didnt because we knew there was a chance wed be forced to move anyway. Id love to see how many people that are out spending their $1800+ per person this year (yes kids included) will actually even attempt to file IPCOTS to stay in Alaska... I think what bugs me is to many actual residents, the PFD means home repair before the long winter or maybe a new rifle or traps for their subsistence lifestyle...to others it means a brand new smart TV and surround sound because they lived in the frozen tundra hell hole for one year and they are counting down the days until they can leave. No offense to my friends that are collecting it, I know many that do (many of which DO plan on staying because they DO love Alaska). Just my personal irk every October when the checks are issued...lol
