To everyone who thinks voluntaryism means something along the lines of volunteering or unpaid work, this is not the case. Lately, different people expressed their thoughts to me about how they admire my idealism, based on this false assumption. I just dont think a moneyless society, where everyone is doing everything for free, is possible, one of them said. That is not what the philosophy of voluntaryism describes. The non-aggression principle (NAP), which is most frequently used to support voluntaryism, asserts that aggression is always illegitimate. (...) Aggression, for the purposes of NAP, is defined as the initiation or threatening of violence against a person or legitimately owned property of another. Specifically, any unsolicited actions of others that physically affect an individual’s property or person, no matter if the result of those actions is damaging, beneficial, or neutral to the owner, are considered violent or aggressive when they are against the owners free will and interfere with her or his right to self-determination and the principle of self-ownership. So nothing against people using money. Simply put, voluntaryism means respect for the free will and sovereignty of the individual. In the words of Adam Kokesh: You, as a free, beautiful, independent human being with inalienable rights, own yourself. As a result, you can do what you want with your own body and own the product of your labor. The implication is that it is morally wrong to initiate force against someone else or their property, because to do so is to violate their rights. Therefor, all human interactions should be free of force, fraud, and coercion and people should be free to exercise their rights, limited only by respect for the rights of others.
