To make our critter hunting job for the Spicebush Swallowtail - TopicsExpress

To make our critter hunting job for the Spicebush Swallowtail larvae easier, we employed the technique we always do for this species. Look for a folded leaf! Here in Central Florida, we tend to find these critters most in Camphor Trees. Once we get to our host plants, we look for leaves that are folded. Most have some eating on them as well (as seen in the first photo). Sometimes, we get lucky, as we did today, and there they are, lying in the bed (the curl) of the folded leaf. Be careful though, many times we dont get so lucky, sometimes, instead, we find a spider web and a spider where the caterpillar once was.
