To me, God is really like . . . John 1:3 Through him all things - TopicsExpress

To me, God is really like . . . John 1:3 Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. Wow, what an intriguing question Pastor Stu has given us, so many possible answers! I immediately began to look forward to Lent and the different daily devotionals I would read written by the members and friends of Faith Community Church. Then I sat down to write my own and found my thoughts racing off into so many different directions. There seemed to be no way for me to focus on a single thought until I remembered the experience I sensed as a young boy in a middle school science class. We were studying the red blood cell. Red blood cells are typically shaped as biconcave disks: flattened and depressed in the center, with a dumbbell-shaped cross section. What a strange shape for a cell was my initial thought. As I read more I learned that this distinctive biconcave shape optimized the flow properties of blood in the large vessels, while also allowing the cells to be remarkably flexible and deformable so as to squeeze through tiny capillaries. This unusual shape also allowed them to maximize their apposing surface by assuming a cigar shape when the hemoglobin they carry efficiently releases its oxygen load to all the other cells throughout the body. I was immediately struck with awe. How could a simple cell, so absolutely critical to human life, have this weird shape? What kind of an incredible intelligence could account for a cell designed so perfectly to perform the task required of it? I recall racing home to tell my parents what I had learned. Clearly I told them, there must be a God, because only God could design the red blood cell so absolutely perfect. Prayer Gracious and loving God, each and every day we look around and marvel at your creation. So many infinitesimal awe-inspiring things that must work perfectly together to sustain life and the universe you created. Keep us always mindful that as your designated stewards of your creation, we are obligated to care for it and love it as you have loved us.
