Taylor, a former executive, lawyer and lobbyist with biotech giant Monsanto Co., as the FDA’s Deputy Commissioner for Foods; when he named Tom Wheeler, a prominent former cable industry lobbyist to head up the FCC (and is now jeopardizing net neutrality for most Americans); and when he named corporate white-collar defense lawyer Mary Jo White to head up the SEC. The United States does not lack for public interest advocates with specialized authoritative knowledge in areas that are the subject of government regulation or management. One wonders then why the typical default with Mr. Obama is to pick a corporatist candidate. You can read Mr. McDonald’s bio here (see en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_A._McDonald) and judge for yourself whether his background is what prepares, let alone qualifies, anybody to head up a huge medical services bureaucracy like the VA.
