To my fellow parishioners, I want to give you an update on my condition and thank you for all of your prayers and support. To recap, I was in a car accident four years ago and the severe whiplash injury resulted in a 90% loss of the use of my arms. Eight months later, I was hit again. We have seen many doctors and it came back to a long, slow recovery. I had made progress and regained about 20-25% use of my arms, with the left arm being stronger than the right. My husband also worked to get me a service dog a year ago. Zane has been a tremendous help towards my independence. We get to be independent together. He lifts and carries things for me. I often joke that he is my fur purse. This past July (2014), I was hit head-on at 55 mph by a man Driving Under the Influence of narcotics. Two of our sons and Zane were in the vehicle. The boys are recovering well and the dog was not injured, although he is more hypervigilant. For me, however, this brought my injuries to a whole new level. We have a local medical team and we are also going to the Virginia Spine Institute in Reston. (“We” being my husband, Tim, and myself, who are in this together.) Surgery is an option, but we want to do all that we can before that is necessary. We are doing a variety of procedures and rehabilitation, but the bottom line is that we are in for the long haul. I have my husband on my right, my dog on my left, fabulous children, wonderful friends, and best Parish in the world! I am able to attend Church most of the time, although I have to sit in my high-back chair so I have support for my neck and head. It is hard for a neck injury to heal when there is a 10 pound bowling ball sitting on it. :-) I am so happy to be at Mass with all of you! Worshiping together in a community means everything. Although my arms are disabled, my legs generally work well. I did sustain a serious injury just below my knee, however, and we will be following up with an orthopedist in a few weeks to make sure that it is healing properly. Generally speaking, though, I can get around pretty well. Tim and I, with our children, are extremely grateful for your prayers and help for our family. We can feel the bubble of protection and support. I have extra time to pray while doing my rehab at home and I do remember you. I am also very sorry for the times that Zane and I have been in your way. Thank you for your patience as Zane and I learn to work together. I am also happy to answer any questions that you might have about my injuries or my service dog. Love to you, Angela Dye
