To our beloved Rage Festival fans.. :) We’ve been listening to your comments and would like to share with you some insight as to how Rage works and also how the Sound Factory came to be at Kings Park Stadium in Durban. Rage Festival consists of 77 parties in 2014. From pool parties with international artists at La Montagne in Ballito to Crush Night Club and Sub Zero Night Club operating every single night in Ballito. For those staying in Umhlanga we have XS operating every night and then loads more club parties across Cape2Cairo, The Origin, Tokio, Tiger Tiger, Rocca Bar and more (all within the usual 12 minute shuttle transfer)… We then have 6 power events. Those power events are Litchi Party in Ballito and the 5 Sound Factory mega day night parties at Kings Park stadium in Durban. The full program and artist line up will be available later this month and you are in for one hell of a treat so sit tight! The Sound Factory was in Durban at the DLI Hall and in Umhlanga at the Wavehouse from 2005 until 2012. In 2013 we took a big step and trialed it in Ballito for the first time. There were many pro’s and con’s. We took feedback from the Ragers of 2013 as well as the town council, residents and homeowners associations of Ballito. You’ll know if you have been to Ballito that Ballito is aggressively increasing its residential footprint and the residents don’t want an outdoor festival with 3 banging stages on their doorstep. They love Rage but don’t want Sound Factory next to their homes. Given the extreme sound systems we install, I guess we understand . Our Sound Factory site from 2013 is now a building construction site with industrial buildings being erected on it so we needed a new home anyway. We spent the first 6 months of 2014 looking in Ballito. We scoured the cane fields, the school grounds, sports fields, warehouses, Litchi Orchids and more and found nothing. We then looked around Umdloti and Sibaya and again came up empty handed. The simple fact is, there is no venue on the north coast that meets our very strict requirements. What are our requirements? Huge! We need 25 000+ square metres of good, flat, inhabitable land Good roads access for very heavy equipment trucks travelling in from Johannesburg and Cape Town We need 18 tonnes per square metre of floor load for our cranes We need proper drainage for water We need a solid surface to avoid mud build up We need public holding areas in case of emergency We need good proximity to airport, hotels and hospitals We need proximity to Durban as many Durban students buy the Rage Reunion Passport and hit Rage again! So is Rage still in Ballito? Hell yes yes yes! There are over 30 events in Ballito in 1 week alone and the transport from Ballito is stellar. Ballito also kicks off a week earlier from the 21st November if you feel like pulling in early. Crush has long been known as the best Rage club and its on Ballito’s doorstep. From 2006 to 2012 all Ragers in Ballito used to use the busses from Ballito to Wavehouse and DLI Hall and absolutely loved it. Rides are R50 each way (a third of the cost of sharing a taxi) and if you’re wearing Converse Sneakers, you might bag one of over 1000 FREE RIDEES there and back each and every night thanks to Converse #SneakersRideForFree. So get some Converse before Rage! How does your Passport work? Black Passports get into all events for free. Platinum Passports get all events free except Litchi party. Regular Passports gain access to all Sound Factory events free and need to pay only R50 for club access. Detailed information regarding the clubs is available on ragefestival.co.za. This is all per the advertising on the Rage Festival website. We hope this clarifies things for you. Sit tight and wait for the full program and venue announcements. We have so many great venues, DJ’s and hosted nights all over Ballito, Umhlanga and Durban. The Sound Factory is in a safe and renowned venue in Durban because that is where it needs to be to make it the best for you, there is no alternative! But trust us… Weve been hosting Rage to screaming audiences for 10 years now and we know what were doing... You will NOT be disappointed. The first time you enter those hallowed Sound Factory gates; any memory of a fun and convenient shuttle ride will be long forgotten. See you at Rage Festival 2014! ;)
