I dont know why especially some Tamils change/trim their fathers name. Most Tamils never had a last name (family name?) and so fathers name was the last name. Now we have some stupidity of attaching caste names and the likes being added as last name. I read that our RBI Guv has Govindarajan as last name, now trimmed to Rajan :o Maybe Raghuraman has to become Raman :( If you feel that your name looks stone age-ish or rustic/rural etc change your name or you change your childs name - why change/trim your fathers name? Recent update is to have your fathers name as last name for your child! It could be an issue in US passports, but do Indian passport issuing procedures face the same? I am Raghuram Rajan after all :D
