“To say that I found God is like saying that a mouse finds a cat!” C.S. Lewis used this graphic example to describe his conversion experience. He was explaining that God found him. Still, we can join in God’s “search” by being where He directs. The experience of Augusto, a student at the Bible School in Luangwa (loo-AHN-gwah), demonstrates this truth. Luangwa is a boma, or county seat in Zambia which is located in the “point” between the Luangwa and Zambezi Rivers as they join. Across the Luangwa is the country of Mozambique and across the Zambezi is the country of Zimbabwe. So the school can make Christian training accessible to students in three countries. Augusto comes from Mozambique by walking for 4-5 hours and crossing the Luangwa River by canoe. And there are hippos and crocodiles in the river! There are other barriers Augusto must cross. He speaks no English, but knows the local dialect of Cinyanja (chin-NYAHN-jah). But because of the school’s location these leaders hungry to learn can overcome the obstacles and grow to better serve God and their churches. Why all the effort and expense to send missionaries to these hard to reach places? To join in the “search” with God. So pray for the missionaries in Luangwa, Kaputa (kah-POO-tah), Isoka (e-SOH-kah), and both missionaries and Zambians teaching in 25 other local Bible Schools in Zambia. Finally, ask yourself, “Who might God be searching for near you”?
