To the group of gentleman medics who, upon hearing that I study English, decided to inform me that my degree is easy because all I do is read books. We Humanities students surpass you Medical students in every conceivable way. We study the great writers of the ages - Plato, Proust, Tennyson, Joyce, Nietzche, Marx, Foucault - whilst you poke corpses and identify anatomical features which have already been discovered. We expand our minds with philosophical thought, historical judgement and critical thinking whilst you absorb simple fact after simple fact from your inordinately basic textbooks. We push the boundaries of knowledge and learning whilst you remain within your arrogant societal niche, speeding towards the belligerent ignorance of white-coated, grey-faced employment in the medical industry with no freedom for expression, empowerment and a miserably lacklustre experience of the pain, sorrow and joy that is the human condition. So good luck putting your fingers in the anal cavities of the elderly and unto you I say, be gone ye squiffy-eyed weasels.
