To the part of society who is blessed to never experience racism, - TopicsExpress

To the part of society who is blessed to never experience racism, and may not understand the frustration or even believe it exist. The recent outrage isnt just about officer Wilson and Brown. This is a combination of years of racial profiling, obsessive or fatal force, and just plain distrust in the justice system. People of color are randomly pulled over disproportionately more than other races. People of color experience more obsessive force during arrest. People of color are given longer sentences for committing the same crimes as others. Dont have me post the statistics, you know I will. It may not be racism but you have to admit there is a double standard targeting a particular group. This must stop in America!!!! I am raising a black male. He is only 8 but I am already preparing him to avoid these situations to the best of my ability. Some parents have the privilege of never having to have these discussions with their children. One day my son will be over 6 feet tall and may make some people feel unsafe or threatened. I will have to explain the consequences of wearing hoodies and sagging his pants. Be careful of the company he keeps, not to play his music to loud yes a black teen was shot dead over loud rap in his car. Be EXTRA respectful, dont speak too loud or wave your hands it may be perceived as violent or aggressive to others. Dont carry shiny objects in your hands it could be mistaken as a weapon. Dont even appear to look like youre shop lifting and always always get a receipt. Dont walk in certain neighborhoods after certain times even his own. Yes we have to have these conversations with our children. It pains me that everyone didnt march peacefully and people lost their businesses. At the end of the day they can rebuild Michael Brown and Tamir Rice the 12 year old boy who was just killed for holding a toy gun by police will never ever be with us again. No matter how educated you are, how much you give back to your country and society this is a burden that we carry. Its not as simple as washing it off or hiding it in the closet, this is our life. Now my people we also have to take responsibility and accountability for our actions as well. #peace #justice #ferguson
