To the women in my life..please read and pay attention to this. Today I had a cardiac event. It woke me up just after 530am and it was indigestion. Heart burn, anyone would think that. I did the very first time it happened to me..but I found out later after my first time it was a heart attack. Since then I have had several heart attacks before finding out why. I have Congestive Heart Failure and severe Diastolic dysfunction which is high pressures in the right chamber of my heart. I have a rockin cardiologist who has me on many many meds to help with these events and has skilled me on how far to go before knowing a trip to the ER is necessary. Today was NOT one of those but in the beginning I wasnt sure. I took my nitro, waited the 5-10 mins for relief, did not get significant relief and took my 2nd nitro. If it takes a 3rd, then I take the 3rd while family calls 911 and my son takes my blood pressure. The 2nd nitro did its job this time and right now I am sitting at my computer writing this. I am writing this because I want my lady friends to know that heart disease in women and heart attacks strike women completely different than they do men. Chest pain can happen but often times the pain is in the back, the neck, the jaw. Indigestion is common, nausea and even vomiting and being lightheaded or dizzy. I will tell you in all my cardiac events I have NEVER experienced the A-typical left arm and/or chest clutch that men experience. My heart events have been much more docile at first. Just like I stated..indigestion this morning but it moved into my throat/jaw and I got dizzy. So I knew what to do because I have worked and am working closely with my heart doctor who I am finally back with. I accept my heart is very sick and therefore I pay attention to it but it doesnt run my life..well it does but you know what I mean :) My point....Ladies do not ignore just because you think its indigestion mixed with some chest discomfort or jaw or in your back. I know a trip to the ER is a pain in the ass..believe me been there done that and laid there for 12 hours while they run the cardiac enzyme tests to show whether your heart attacked. I have also had a heart attack while IN the hospital. Be SMART about your heart and let someone tell you its NOTHING. Dont be so proud that you dont want to bother anyone or you REFUSE to go to a hospital. Its better to be nothing than be dead or damage your heart badly . Be a smart and very much alive woman! And to all my guy friends, support your ladies if they experience this pain. Believe me we dont want to draw attention to something that is nothing but at the same time you have to consider the what ifs. Take good care of yourselves
