To those of you who actually think that the latest bill (H.R. 1422) is a good idea, I will remind you -- Robert Kehoe. This was the joker who is responsible for allowing the lead industry to poison every man, woman and child in the United States with tetraethyl lead -- an anti-knock ingredient in leaded gasoline. Go to the gas pumps. You do not find leaded gas now. Why? Because we have discovered, through hard scientific data, that there is no such thing as safe levels of lead in the blood. That it makes you both crazy and stupid. Especially if you are a child. Robert Kehoe was the scientist hired by the lead industry to convince congress that TEL was perfectly safe. Which he did...for a time. This is what happens when you put special interest on equal footing with pure science, or worse, make it illegal for those who know the most to testify because they know the most. Which, in effect, is what H.R. 1422 does. It opens the doors to all the Kehoes of the industry, while slamming it firmly in the face of the Clair Pattersons of the world. The fact that this Bill passed congress is not only shameful, it should be alarming to every reasonably intelligent citizen -- it is a direct indicator of how far corruption has spread. Of course, it should be noted that a significant portion of the voting public is suffering from relatively mild lead poisoning. Do we really want to do this again?
