To those of you who would have stopped this teenage gunman through gun control laws: think carefully of what you propose. What would passing new laws do? Practically nothing. This gunman was native american. He likely got the gun he used from a residence on tribal lands, which are not subject to Washington state law. Federal law did not keep the gun out of his hands, and federal law is some of the most restrictive in terms of gun control. Even if you could have kept him possessing a gun, what is to keep a murderer from doing the same act with a knife out of the kitchen drawer? He who is determined to kill will not be deterred by some legal words that he probably cannot interpret anyway. He knows what he is doing is a criminal act, and wrong. The reality is that gun control is not murder prevention. It is a way for some politicians to gain the votes of the fearful and irrational. Do you want to take the guns out of the hands of these murderous children? Then help them to see a better way. Be a friend, not another dictator.
