To those reading and sharing the Why I Dont Do CrossFit fad - TopicsExpress

To those reading and sharing the Why I Dont Do CrossFit fad article out right now: I. Inadequate coaching- So if I have poor service at a restaurant, i don’t stop eating out altogether. THAT RESTAURANT no longer gets my business. This is the most personal issue i have with this sensationalism. If you go into LA Fitness and see weighted squats on a bosu ball, nobody cries about the certification process or education of the trainer asking the client to do it. Poor coaching is on an individual basis and to condemn an entire movement is short sited and closed minded. If I have a 60 year old woman moving better than she has in decades then something is being done right and it is something that was not achievable through all of the other things they have tried. II. Because you have been involved in successful athletics programs then their strength and conditioning programs must have it all figured out. You are literally saying if it aint broke don’t fix it. The change has already begun. The problem is licensing/copyright but i know of a number of D2 and D3 Programs going full on CrossFit Footballl in and out of season. III. Certified in a weekend. Im pretty sure my Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist certificate is a result of reading at home alone without any practical application. Same as the bagillions of personal training certifications out there. CrossFit puts coaches in a position to see 100s of clients in 3-5 days. There is no other fitness field where coaches pick up that sort of experience. If I coach 15 classes a week with an average of 10 clients a class (a real number for my business), that means I have eyes on and am learning from 150 bodies a week. IV. “No entity of professional athletics promotes CrossFit.” - umm top of my head I know of 1! And they are kind of a big deal! WHO DAT?! nola/saints/index.ssf/2013/05/sean_payton_brought_back_high-.html V. Traditional Cardio trumps CrossFit- Here is where you lost it all. If there is anything that has been proven without any doubt, it is that you can in fact improve your health and wellness through CrossFit and solid nutrition. Claiming that mono-strucutural cardio is the way to go is a great example of why you are so bitter with business leaving your facility for the unairconditioned warehouse down the street. “What happens when it’s not new, ‘We get stale, we stop improving, or our body breaks down.’” Im going to lose my mind if it is not quickly admitted that the only way to get better at running is by RUNNING MORE! Extras: Things Im leaving out, 1)physios love CrossFit because it makes them so much money (this quote become popular 8 years ago and has been beaten to death. Until you apply the same quote to the millions of running injuries-the most injuries in any fitness endeavor- or start cryain against youth athletics where women are pretty much expected to tear their ACLs at least once in their career- but this wouldnt be education on the part of the strength and conditioning coach, nope, not at all) 2) most of the people who show up as having liked or shared this post have never done a back squat in their lives and they have the underdeveloped posterior chain (oh snap), poor movement patterns and chronic discomfort to go with it. CrossFit doesnt have to be your thing, but get off those who have decided to pursue it. If there is a better way to get people to improve their quality of life while also growing as a person through the incredible community then I will be the first to promote it.
