To traveling Citzens of NSW, do you have children or other family members and friends who use the Public Transport network. The role of Transit Officer was to assist Police with reporting and deterring antisocial behaviour while enforcing fare evasion and compliance offences. Now the current NSW Government has made a decision to close the Transit officer function and remove 600 officers from protecting the Public Transport. In return saying they will be replaced by 600 police by December 2014 who will now cover trains, buses and ferrys. Over the last 16 months the NSW Police have found it very difficult to maintain and recruit Police to cover there commitment. As it stands now the Police authorised strength is 430 but only 307 Police officers are operational. This means there are only 307 Police officers to patrol the whole network of trains, buses and ferrys. These extra 300 + Police officers that the government has promised would be better used in other areas while Transit Officers continued to deal with summary offences. Please take time to read and share and read about recent incidents, and the next time you travel on a Train ask yourself this, has Anti Social Behaviour or Graffiti increased since Transit officers are now no longer being used to catch or deter anti social behaviour or malicious damage on the NSW public transport Network.
