To welcome the 2014 Richard Bartol, Jr. Educators’ Conference attendees to the 4-day conference, the Gettysburg Foundation, Gettysburg National Military Park and Gettysburg College hosted an opening ceremony and banquet at the Gettysburg National Military Park Museum & Visitor Center last night. The opening ceremony featured a keynote speech by Civil Rights icon and one of the “Little Rock Nine” Minnijean Brown-Trickey. Brown-Trickey powerfully recounted her experience as one of the first African American students to attend Little Rock Central High School in 1957 at age 16, flanked by soldiers and facing-down an angry mob in the segregated South.
