To wit: Conservatives have spent decades defining their ideas, carefully choosing the language with which to present them, and building an infrastructure to communicate them, says (George Lakoff, a UC Berkeley professor of linguistics and cognitive science). Initially--and for decades--the Democratic reaction (and a reaction it is) involved restating the Republican lie (thereby giving the lie credibility) and then attempting to refute it. The current make-up of the U.S. Congress and the North Dakota Legislature proves how well this Democratic knee-jerk reaction has fared. Meanwhile, the environmental movement has been heeding Lakoffs advice. The environmentalists language contains none of the repeated phrases of its opponents. Instead, it uses impassioned words and energized images/theater to bolster their argument. V
