Today - The Sign Came Down One year ago yesterday, Moms Schoolhouse Diner closed when I (Mom) retired. It was a bittersweet day sweetened by the fabulous closing party that evening. I didnt want to just quietly ride off into the winter of my life but instead with as many friends, family, customers, and staff celebrate the end and the beginning of a new season for me. Today, a year later, the outdoor sign which identified Moms Schoolhouse was taken down. I actually have had thoughts of reopening for I have desperately missed all aspects of the diner.......well, except the long hours. I even had the grand idea of hosting a one-year closing party. But what business closes and then celebrates that closing with a huge anniversary party? Thats how much I want to see so many of you again! But Pepsi stopped this morning and the removal of the outside sign puts an end to those thoughts of reopening. I faced the realization that it really is over. I have floundered some this last year, but now am looking at a home for a possible Bed and Breakfast, recently became a Mary Kay Consultant (an unexplored area in my life), am hosting neighborhood coffee hour and ladies luncheons, will begin voice lessons again, am doing some writing along with research of the Swedish side of my family, and enjoying so much time with Dick. Yes, my life is now moving forward with new dreams and goals welling up inside me. But the diner and you will always have a very special spot in my heart and memory.
