Today Citizens Advice Scotland published their new “The Postcode Penalty: The Business Burden” report. 247 businesses in Scotland were surveyed by CAS and nine out of ten businesses who responded reported that they regularly faced additional delivery costs because of their location. Sir Robert highlighted the problem of unfair delivery charges with his Private Members Bill- the Delivery Surcharges (Transparency for Consumers) Bill and his Fairer Delivery Charges campaign (fairerdeliverycharges.net/) “The Postcode Penalty” report makes a number of recommendations and some of these – such as a requirement for retailers to offer delivery by Royal Mail wherever possible – were also raised during the debate on the Delivery Surcharges (Transparency for Consumers) Bill and at the delivery charges summit.
