Today I caught myself poisoning my workouts. I HATE doing volume with squats. My goal with the first selected weight was 5 sets of 10 reps for the first round. The second round of weight was 1 set of 20, 2 sets of 15. The third selected weight was 2 sets of 25. On the first round, I had finished the first 4 sets of 10. Before I had even lifted the weight off the squat rack to begin my 5th round of 10 reps, I caught myself justifying only doing 5 reps. I hadnt even touched it! I noticed it, and forced myself to complete the 10 reps. I did it again with the second round of weight before I had lifted off for the first set...I was justifying 3 sets of 15 and 1 set of 5. This mentality is what has killed my squat performance in the first place. I completed the workout and got several new personal records. I was physically capable but I almost let my mental BS stop me. Had I not noticed it, once again I would have been OK with settling for mediocre. Never again. I just want to encourage you to kick ass and dont let a negative mental state poison what you can actually do. Dont be scared of success.
