Today I changed my pic to honor my husband William Martin Jr., who passed away Jan. 8, 2013.......today is the second anniversary of his death...... I can never repay those who came to help him. But to my son who ran to the ambulance, the medic and EMT in the back of the rig during the accident.,the squads and fire depts who responded to the accident scene.. I thank you again....to the dispatcher at Newton Police, Dave Dolan , I am glad you were there....To the Stillwater Rescue Squad, if it had not been for your assistance, my family and I would not have survived this tragedy. Your devotion and protection helped us move forward without our Gentle Giant ,Bill.. The Newton Fire dept raised the American flag in the pouring rain at Smith McCracken Funeral home..I know Bill was standing there saluting with you... The flag also flew the day of his funeral in Stillwater, courtesy again from the Fire depts...That touched my heart and I have never forgotten that... I have never felt so alone as when I stood in St. Josephs church in front of a packed house. Along with family ,friends and coworkers......There was a overwhelming sea of uniforms, badges, shined shoes, white gloves and hats. Every corner was filled by a EMT, fireman/woman ,police officer or Medic. I looked out on that crowd and thought all of these people really are my family. I am never really alone........Squads and fire depts may squabble among themselves but in times of trouble they rally around and help one another ......that is true meaning of family... Bill and I joined the squad to help others and we were the ones who got the largest benefit....lifetime friendships...respect and honor....... Thank you to the Emergency Medical Services and Fire Depts far and wide.....volunteer and change a life, it might be yours..... .
