Today, I experienced first hand my own dose of prejudice. I will - TopicsExpress

Today, I experienced first hand my own dose of prejudice. I will not go as far as to say racism because I cannot say that for sure. However, for some reason, I was prejudged before ever given the chance to present myself. I visited a local business to shoot a phenomenal idea and the owners would not give me the time of day. Things started off on a very bad foot, the atmosphere was cold and unwelcoming, and I felt as if I was not good enough to even be on their property. I called the owner on the fact that she shot down an idea or request before ever hearing it. I then turned and walked away, knowing my worth and not to ever cast my pearls amongst swine, figuratively speaking. I am a ten-year educator in this community. I carry myself well. I speak well. I hold degrees. I own a business. I own a home. I am not loud nor rude. I have a fairly decent reputation...(and this I say all in sincere humbleness.) But for some people, that will still never be good enough. I have to be extra smart, extra qualified, and extra quiet to gain the respect of some, or else, Ill be labeled extra ghetto. It is June 2, 2014. On this day fifty years ago, President Lyndon B. Johnson signed into law the historic civil rights act. Also on this day, I realized that so much has changed, but so much has remained the same. A law will never change the hearts of man. God and the power of his infinite love has to change the hearts of man. But I still have a dream... :~)
