Today, I experienced one of the firsts in my life. I taught a workshop that was entirely of my own design at #LaSopaNYC: The School of Poetic Arts at Boricua College! Now, Ive taught before, usually covering a class with predeveloped material or chiming in to classes in progress, but I had never designed a lesson plan on my own, top-to-bottom, complete with handouts and exercises. It was fun, educational, and I absolutely need more of it in my life! A tremendous thank you goes out to Rev. Carlos M. Lopez Garcia for visiting us today to deliver the Butterfly Tribe Scholarship he promised in the name of our mutual friend Elizabeth Rivera de Garcia, and for sharing his own gift of poetry with us through his book, Rising & Setting- Towards The Balance Of Self. I will cherish my copy, as I understand the sharing of a book of poems from one poet to another is an act of high reverence, respect, and I am honored to add your work to my library of the poets of our time!
