Today I had a very cool experience. Before I headed back to school, I decided to grab the dogs and try a quick morning run. Well around 8:00 I cut a monster of a coyote track that was super fresh. I could see the pad and claw print on the side of the road. We followed it 8 miles until we finally caught up to it (so we thought) when it went into a 2 mile section known to hold coyotes. So I grabbed a pup and I hiked into it following the track. We were very careful to check all sides of the road before I walked in to make sure the yote didnt cross over. Well after a 2.5 mile hike in the snow and with the AR15 over my shoulder we found where it had crossed while I was in the section so we jumped back into the truck and followed it another 7 miles back to the section we originally started (super thick section and hard to push out). Just goes to show how far and fast coyotes can travel in a short amount of time. This was a huge coyote (prints almost the size of my dog) and very experienced. He doubled back 3 or 4 times and was running frozen creek bottoms. He definitely knew what he was doing as I seen some older tracks from him from the day before. Hopefully this weekend he will make a fatal flaw :)
