Today, I held a Kirinyaga County Education stakeholders meeting at - TopicsExpress

Today, I held a Kirinyaga County Education stakeholders meeting at my Kutus office where we discussed pertinent issues affecting education in our county and how to turn Kirinyaga into a centre of excellence in all levels. I expressed my regret that ranking in the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) has been abolished. I noted that this will have adverse effects on performance, morale and investment in the sector. It will also increase laziness and complacency because the zeal to perform has been removed as well as the reward scheme where best performers are rewarded and the poor performers encouraged. Ranking is a key monitoring tool that also helps identify weaknesses which are then addressed. As a county we will develop our own system of ranking because we are sure Education CS Prof Kaimenyi is wrong on this one as he never consulted anyone. Nevertheless we are confident that our county was still at the top as it has been in the last four years and I thank teachers, parents and students for their hard work. Later I presented certificates to over 400 ECD teachers that were recently trained to enhance their skills. These are teachers we employed last year. We will continue to support efforts aimed at improving our education performance.
