Today I look back to the good ol days. When I was young & aspired to fight someday, not too many were there with me helping get started but here are a few that helped get it going. First Matt Bernhardt we went out drinkin hard but we lifted hard together & practiced submission wrestling. Next Justin L. Green, went to lots of trouble to organize grappling/toughman boxing events, these were the best thing ever at the time & he never made a penny doing them, in fact feeding us up & hangin out probably lost way more. Then the first totally skilled partner I had (formerly trained) El Rude BorkEl Rude we worked out after work & lifting for hours in his front yard, we wrestled on dirt, sticks& gravel. I think Istill got the scar from a bad fall on a rock. I lived with him in the (scary for a little white boy) neighborhood in Davenport. While I was there for just a short time I learned the most Ive ever learned about fighting from the Pat Miliich school, was hard but great experience. Pat gave great advice & when we talked to him about a certain promoter he simply said I know you guys think hes your friend, but he never fought & will set you up. Then as time went I met up with Travis Fulton, he helped me a lot & got me fights the big douche promotor couldnt/wouldnt. We hung out a lot over the years & (dont tell him since I always try to think up stupid mean things to tell him) probably my best friend...Ill never admit that again lol. Since then I try to learn what I canfrom whom I can. Manny Quiroz, even though he has no facebook anymore was a great training partner. Sean Cornelius When he gets a hold of me is a great partner, who even though he thinks I know what Im sayin helps me out too. Cody Askvig, who made me workout with him even though I wanted to watch TV. Guys like Cole Django Read,Cody Hickle, Mark Orton, Ryan K Fournier, Shawn TheChange Gephart, & many students. Not to forget the lesson Johnny Martin gave when he kicked me in the side & made me shit out part of my liver lol, he did drop me though. If in Mason City it is a great gym to check out though & Im sure hed give a great deal on a day pass, Phf KaratePhilosofighting, really team & goal orientated. I know I forgot some people, feel free to tag yourself unless we never worked out, then knock it off. Mike Estus also has a gym in Clear Lake & is a tough fighter we only worked out like twice but he is tough & upcoming. Well sorry if I forgot to mention you, but I havent forgotten you. Thanks all
