Today I met with a store who opened the conversation with this - TopicsExpress

Today I met with a store who opened the conversation with this statement: Its a dying art; no one teaches these things anymore. I was offered a job teaching knitting and quilting. Fifty year experience in knitting, 30 years in quilting, and a degree in Textile marketing; salary: worse case $3 per hour, best $12/hour plus I donate my time at open houses and preparing for class and making samples for the store to hang at a mere 15% discount off supplies.....REALLY? The only people paid less than school teachers are those that teach art. We are looking for someone who wants to get out of house and thinks this is fun. Me: Thanks, but its more fun to stay home! And they wonder why it is a dying art??????? Maybe its because you offer pioneer salaries! As the year ends, Im thankful I dont have to work for pennies when carpenters, electricians, and plumbers (same degree of training, same investment in equipment, and same degree of knowledge) get paid $100/hour!
