Today, I passed a bipartisan amendment to the 2015 Agriculture - TopicsExpress

Today, I passed a bipartisan amendment to the 2015 Agriculture Appropriation bill that provides anti-hunger and nutrition funding to Illinois students during the summer break. Far too many children who rely on the free and reduced school meal program go hungry during the summer as their families often dont have the resources to feed them over the long school break. My amendment increases funding for the Summer Electronic Benefits Transfer for Children pilot program to $30 million to help feed more hungry children this summer. Nationwide, 21 million students receive free or reduced price lunch in school - yet only 3 million of them receive free meals during the summer. No child in America should ever go hungry. We have an obligation to ensure that the neediest children have access to the food they need year-round.
