Today, I sang as part of two Remembrance Day ceremonies at Ellesmere-Statton Public School. One for the younger kids, and then one for the older. I sang a couple of songs, and there was bagpipes, a bugle, a violin, a flute, a piano, small groups of kid singers, slide shows, In Flanders Fields ... and ... I know there was more. Im very glad I was there to participate, thanks to the invitation of my wonderful friend Moira Taylor, who teaches music, there. Much & many love to you, Moira! Its been several years since I attended a Remembrance Day ceremony, and todays convinced me that I would like to attend one every year. I despise war, and the romantic in me says its not necessary to kill each other. Unfortunately, I dont have a sure-fire solution. Today, I saw that this schools ceremony fit quite nicely for me. There was celebration of peace and of love. There was acknowledgement of the sacrifice of so many that came before me. Along with always remember was a message of never again. In my books, they are not mutually exclusive, and in fact, remembering help me to reminds me why I never want to see another person killed.
