Today I shall honor my friends of Hispanic heritage. The first permanent settlement in what we know as the U.S. was not Jamestown and was clearly not in Mass. Indeed, one hundred years before Jamestown (1607), the first Europeans to establish a permanent settlement were Hispanics who brought some pigs and goats to Puerto Rico in 1505. So there you have it - all American History runs through Puerto Rico.
