Today I spent several hours with my good friend Mike Stancel. As many of you know hes battling cancer and is not doing well. He is such a brave, tough man. As we rode out toward the Lake he was so weak while talking with me about my Dad and the great times they had together Policing Saluda County. As we talked further he said Jake tomorrow Im taking my Grandson who is 10 on his first turkey hunt, on my land off Hwy 702! He looked at me and with tears in his eyes said thats one of the last things on my bucket list. I then suggested we take a sharpy and write his grandson a little note on the back of his box call and give it to him tomorrow morning while they are sitting in the blind. At this time we both had tears because I said I have my Pops Lynchs Turkey call and money couldnt buy it. He said Jake me and your Pop bought those calls in the 80s together! Life can be so sad, I love Mike Stancel and have so much enjoyed him being in my life. He taught me so much about hunting and the great outdoors . Please say a prayer for Chief Mike Stancel tonight a wonderful man, Police officer and a hunting buddy of mine.
