Today I want to talk about Gods silence and walking in faith not by sight: intouch.org/magazine/content/topic/Are_You_Listening#.U68ba_ldUqY youtube/watch?v=jVKjQwfyQ_g I remember when I heard that song for the very first time. I was driving down 24 in my car which was a Chevy Lumina at the time. KLove introduced it as a new song and then it played. I thought the beat was cool and I love Christian music so I was open to the new song. However, once I actually listened to the lyrics it was as if I was hit by a truck. My lips ceased to move, no longer singing along and my face resembled that of a still painting or statue. The relevance that these words had to my situation back then, as well as to my situation right now, left me in awe. I ended up crying while listening to the rest of the song and immediately bought it from itunes once I returned back home. Have you ever felt like God wasnt there? Or maybe that He was there but that He wasnt listening to your prayers or when you cried out to Him?. My educated guess is that we have all felt the discouragement of doubting whether or not God cares. I recently have been suffering an extreme bout of this discouragement and confusion. So naturally I did what I enjoy doing - research. I looked up and read weeks worth of research in reference to Gods silence. After diligently searching for the past few days I came across an article in the early hours of this morning (the link is posted for you to go ahead and read for yourself). In this article there are numerous reasons listed as to why you may be experiencing the silent treatment from God. The different answers provided are the following, however I highly suggest you read the in depth answers on the site: -Were not ready to listen -Unconfessed sin is blocking our communication with God -He wants to get our attention -The Lord is teaching us to trust Him -God is using silence to mature us -He wants us to persevere in prayer -The Lord desires that we learn to distinguish His voice There are many reasons why God has put me and possibly many of you, in the silent zone. I personally had one part of the article stand out to me and it made me realize something about myself. It gave me a potential answer as to why God is remaining quiet. It was wonderful because I gained a new perspective and received some clarity on my personal situation. What about you? Do you know why God is putting you in the silent zone? Would you like to find out?. This all leads me to the second topic for today which is walking by faith and not by sight. We live in a society where everything is instantaneous. Naturally this programs and conditions us to become impatient people who expect answers and results quickly. This is a major problem. First off, being impatient is not a characteristic of God; and secondly, God works on His own time, not ours. Do you only have an active prayer life in times of trouble? Do you only remember who God is when you need or want something? When you do pray and an answer does not immediately come, do you get angry with God or give up on praying any further? These are some serious questions to ask ourselves. We must be honest about the answers to these questions. Once we have done that we must change the way we interact with God. The Lord is not some magic geenie who we get to use and only pay attention to when we are at rock bottom. If God wants you or me or anyone for that matter, to wait before He decides to answer a prayer then we need to be accepting of His will. We need to learn to serve God, praise God, love God and obey God whether He is blessing our lives to the fullest and answering every prayer or if we are sitting in a corner at rock bottom waiting because God is being silent. We need to be individuals, Christians, spouses, people who love and serve God through every storm. We should strive to be people who walk by faith and not by sight. So, are you in the silent zone? Have you been there for a while? Join the club and take a seat next to me because I have been there for months now. However, know that if you join me you will still be serving God, loving God, obeying God, attending church, praying, fasting, reading, waiting, forgiving and standing. Know that God is in fact there and yes, He does care and yes He is listening. Allow God to work in you and no matter what season youre currently in, always walk by faith and never by sight. Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! - Philippians 4:4 For we walk by faith, not by sight. - 2 Corinthians 5:7 You love Him even though you have never seen Him. Though you do not see Him now, you trust Him; and you rejoice with a glorious, inexpressible joy. The reward for trusting Him will be the salvation of your souls. - 1 Peter 1:8-9 Let all that I am wait quietly before God, for my hope is in Him. - Psalm 62:5 Then Jesus told him, You believe because you have seen me. Blessed are those who believe without seeing me. - John 20:29 This Good News tells us how God makes us right in his sight. This is accomplished from start to finish by faith. As the Scriptures say, It is through faith that a righteous person has life. - Romans 1:17 So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal. - 2 Corinthians 4:18 Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord. - Psalm 27:14
