Today I was asked a question. I never mind answering questions. Here was the question... Why are you still fundraising for Joshuas trip if you have reached the goal to get there to Scotland? Here is the answer... We are still taking any donations that people want to give because: 1. I took $3000 of my own money towards the trip. That emptied my account which is used to go back and forth to the IWK. But, in order for him to have this trip a reality I needed to make the decision to do that and re-save up when we get back or he would NEVER had enough to go! 2. He had three fundraisers which I might add went extremely well.... Thank Goodness and he had some local businesss donate as well. Which gave him enough for his Plane Tickets, Medical Insurance, trip insurance, and workshops he would like to attend. 3. Fundraising tallied up at $3400.65 .... to purchase anything in Scotland you now have the exchange rate 200 pounds is equal to $371 Canadian ... so $3400 is only equal to approx. 1700 lbs. the Hotel is 115lbs a night ... and that does not include taxes is any etc. So if you do the math ... he has ONLY enough to get there and have cheap meals. 4. So, I am told no one will donate towards spending money. That is fine with us ... He is happy with out and we are not asking people to give for that ... but, it would be nice for him to be able to do something other than just sit in the hotel room. So, this is why we are not having any more fundraisers as you may have noticed ... because YES he does have enough to get there. But, YES we do still have donation jars for spare change if people feel that they would LIKE to give and other people have asked me kindly to leave them up till Friday. This is why they are still there. Most of the money that Josh is raising for his spending money he is actually working for. He is cleaning and recycling bottles and taking them to he depot and he is singing for the rest. So, if the donation Jars ... which he is getting about $5.00 a week from is making anyone unhappy or making them think that we are asking too much of people please let us know so that they can be removed .... as offending any one is NOT our intention! Thank you to those of you who have been very supportive of Joshuas hard work. The skill he has learned from this Journey will help him in future life... such as:: Letter writing Resume Writing How to properly approach people How to empower himself and he skills he is learning social skills self control budgeting and history not only of his home town but of others from around he world that he has met and will meet. Things he will learn over there: history interviewing skills performing skill dance skills he will learn how a documentary is put together as he will be in one. and many many more. This is a life time trip for him .... a hard earned award.... and every moment of learning from this point on will follow him through as he shares a journal that he will be keeping to share with his class mates. As with every fundraising there have been positive and negative comments ... each one has been respected and taken in as a positive learning experience for our family. Fundraising is far from an easy task. I know it will be so worth it in the end.
