Today I went to the National Museum of Singapore and got a penny - TopicsExpress

Today I went to the National Museum of Singapore and got a penny pressed. I felt like I was at Disneyland only this penny press supplied its own penny after two Singapore dollars were deposited. Did I get a good rate of return on my two dollar investment? Ha. I think not! But then, I told you I was bad at math. The Museum presented an exhibit Singapura: 700 Years which led one to believe... Singapore has been around for some 700 years when in reality today, I found out, Singapore has only been around for 49 YEARS! Ha. Archaeological digs have only just begun in 2010 and were busy discovering discarded bottles from the 50s and a pair of British soldier shoes. Also on display were the ancient tools these archeologists are using -- like La 80s Wheel Barrel and La Home Depot extra-wide paint brush. The only thing missing I thought was a roll of duct tape. Ha. Not exactly what I had expected -- until the exhibit got into pictures depicting coolies and indentured servants and a deeply moving exhibit of photos taken during the Japanese occupation of World War II. Honestly, I didnt know, Japan had invaded Singapore and according to the vast amount of photos showing heads sans bodies displayed upon the tips of swords, and neatly lined into rows at the sides of roads leading into the occupied cities did one understand the pain the next set of photos revealed when the Singaporean folks staged protests for war reparations from the Japanese that indeed -- World War II had stretched so far and with such cruelty.
