Today I went to visit my foster care agency to see if I could meet up with my old social worker. I wanted to catch up and maybe let her know I was alive despite her recklessness and show off the college degree she didnt help me get. It has been 10 years since I was required to be there, and not a thing has improved. Children are playing with broken toys as their parents argue, the receptionists cannot provide any information, and there is filth everywhere. I cannot believe I almost forgot this was my childhood. 12 years of it. I look at myself now and realize what a blessing it was to make it out of that system with goals for myself. The sadness of it all is that not many did/will. The system is a broken thing. They shatter families that are merely cracked or they try fixing the irreparable, all while breaking down anyone who tries to make a difference. Thousands of lives are being built on a faulty foundation and I plan on figuring out how to fix it. #fostercare #nyc #littleflower
