Today I will be carrying the RCT NUT banner with colleagues in Ponty to demonstrate against the proposed cuts in RCT. Let me make it quite clear why - we are saying that the proposals are wrong; that they are badly thought out- with little consideration of long term effects, that they are based on poor evidence, are a short term knee jerk reactions to funding cuts, that the phased approach does not allow people to see the whole picture and judge cumulative effects of further cuts. We believe that these cuts will be detrimental to children, staff and parents. We believe that these cuts will have a disproportionate impact on women, on children with SEN , on pupils at risk of deprivation and on Welsh medium education. We believe that these cuts will result in families on the edge of poverty tumbling down into the poverty trap , that there will be a huge impact on the workforce in RCT. We believe that the full impact of these cuts on children s progress will not be seen for a least 4 years by which time someone will blame the schools yet again for underachievement !
