Today Im announcing a budget package to significantly increase our capacity to clean and landscape our public spaces as well as improve safety in our parks by increasing the size of park patrol and performing more routine park tree maintenance. The city budget for these basic municipal functions - keeping our public spaces clean, green, and safe - has been decimated in recent years, and its time to focus on them in a serious way. We need more cleaning crews for our plazas, alleys, and transit stations, which quickly become filthy. We need to care for public landscaping. And we need to keep our parks safe from vandalism, graffiti, dumping, and hazardous trees. This budget proposal is a good step forward, and Im proud to have as community partners San Francisco Parks Alliance, Friends of the Urban Forest, and San Francisco Beautiful.
