Today Im wearing a pair of plain black shorts, the type of which might be described as bermuda. They are flat-front, hit just above my knee, and have no extraneous pockets, zippers, pull-cords, or anything else that would make them even slightly resemble the much longer, much more tricked-out style that seems to prevail today as shorts. Thats OK with me, except that I was just outside the shop adjusting our sign that faces oncoming traffic on West Broad Street, when some kid riding in the back seat of a passing car stuck his head out and yelled high waters! Really? My shorts are too short? Geez, now I feel like Walter Matthau in Grumpy Old Men, showing my knobby old wrinkled knees and pearly pale legs. Just put me out of my misery, for Gods sake.
