Today Maryknoll Lay Missioners, the broader Maryknoll Family and many other friends gathered with his wife, Jean Walsh, daughters Hannah and Maria and grandson, Brandon to celebrate the life of Joe Regotti at the Maryknoll Sisters Annunciation Chapel. The chapel was more than overflowing for the Eucharistic Liturgy of Resurrection. The beautiful mass and outpour of support was indeed a testimony to the life that Joe lived and how he accompanied others. Joes profound commitment to social change and to ministry was fostered at the Center for Social Concerns in his years at Notre Dame. He graduated from ND in 82 and was named the Outstanding Member of the Class of 82. After graduation he joined Holy Cross Associates and was sent to Chile during the time of the dictatorship and served in the desolate and very poor northern part of the country. From there he worked for justice in Guatemala and in 1997 along with his wife Jean Walsh joined Maryknoll Lay Missioners where they served until he faced cancer. After beating his first bout with cancer he directed the formation programs for Maryknoll Lay Missioners until his cancer returned aggressively and took his life on January 3rd, 2015. Joe was 54 years old. Joe Regotti was an example of a life dedicated to serve others from a profound gospel call and to build a better and more just world. We all miss Joe very much. But, his legacy will live on in the many lives he has touched and mentored. God bless you, Joe as you live the fullness of the presence of our loving God.
