Today (Monday) was the screening of Catching Fire, the second - TopicsExpress

Today (Monday) was the screening of Catching Fire, the second Hunger Games film and a superior picture to The Hunger Games in every way. District 12 doesnt look like an ennobled patch of poverty in the majesty of the wilderness this time, it looks like a rural slum caked in coal dust. Even the white snow goes gray before anyone has a chance to imagine a winter wonderland. And as we arrive in the capitol, we see the bunker it is built within before we get to the luxury and the glittering cityscape. Francis Lawrence gets the novel better than Gary Ross ever did. The districts are essentially open slave pens for people who will be worked to death without any hope of escape. Katniss is a symbol of defiance not because she tries to be, but because she acts on instinct to protect who she loves rather than play it safe to protect herself.
