Today Sabrina and I had a team meeting with most of Zachary Stone-Humphrey team of nurses, doctors, social workers, pt, and ot, nutritionist and coordinators. The surgeon was called to the OR so I didnt talk to him until later today but I am going to do a short update based on that. Tomorrow is Zacharys 3rd surgery the hope is to graft belly and maybe flanks. The rehab team sets many small attainable goals along the way. The first one is to cover his wounds and get him out of the bubble. His accute pain will go away and he will normalize. It is ok that he still doesnt have a voice due to the breathing tube. The vocal chords have to heal. Some muscle and weight loss is to be expected but all in all they are trying to feed to his needs at this point and it shouldnt be drastic. A goal that Shriners has for burn victims is 1day in I c u for every percent of burn the body has. Zachary has burned 50% of his body so the goal is to have him out of I c u in 50 days. This is not a promise but a goal that they work towards.
