Today, Shane Gilreath, the president of our board, contacted Judge - TopicsExpress

Today, Shane Gilreath, the president of our board, contacted Judge Stephens and asked that he make a proclamation declaring Tuesday, December 2nd #GivingTuesday across McCreary County. On that date, Americans from across the country celebrate a date of giving, a part of a call to action that will change the calendar and make history, inspiring people from all walks of life to take an active role in their communities. Governments across our country – from local to federal officials, including an acknowledgement from the White House – have supported this movement. Through this, we can change the way people think about philanthropy and community service, and inspire future generations to be involved. This request was made of Judge Stephens in full awareness of the fiscal limitations of families, particularly during the holidays -after all, it is the very reason Banquet of Blessings, an organization that we’re so proud of, exists - so #GivingTuesday does not have to be about monetary donations. It can be about giving of ourselves to a greater cause: our community. The request was also made realizing that time was of the essence, so whether that proclamation comes for December 2nd, the nationally recognized #GivingTuesday, or December 20th or October 4th, that we make a concerted effort to involve each other in the community is enough to change not only outcomes, but lives. If you’d like to join Shane in this effort and contact Judge Stephens and ask him to issue this proclamation, I encourage you to email him at dstephens@mccrearycount. McCrearyFest, Winterfest, Pictures with Santa, Banquet of Blessings and the many other things we’re involved with thrive on donations from citizens like you and volunteers who give daily of themselves. So, let us encourage others to do the same and let today be the beginning of an inspired future!
