Today, U.S. Senator Elizabeth Warren introduced the Bank on Students Emergency Loan Refinancing Act, which would give our students & graduates a #fairshot at an affordable college education by allowing them to refinance student loan debt at the low rates available to new borrowers. Im proud to be an original co-sponsor of this bill and Im proud that my proposal to allow student borrowers to refinance at lower rates was included. With student debt climbing above $1.2 trillion, its essential that we reduce the burden on our student borrowers, so they can invest in their own futures and get our economy moving again. Allowing them to refinance at a lower rate, just as businesses and homeowners are able to do, is a critical first step.
