Today, Wednesday April 30, 2014, the City of Valparaiso experienced Sanitary Sewer overflows due to excessive rainfall and the Waste Water collection system exceeding capacity. All pumping stations are functioning as designed and pumping at full capacity. Between 7:58 AM and 8:50 AM City staff verified sanitary sewer overflows from four separate locations. The discharges occurred from manholes located at the following addresses: 1. 57 Hidden Cove Drive 2. 20 Bayshore Point * Entering waterway and potential to affect Boggy Bayou 3. 321 Glen Avenue * Entering waterway and potential to affect Tom’s Bayou 4. Intersection of Westview Avenue and North Bayshore Drive * Entering waterway and potential to affect Tom’s Bayou Notification has been made, by the City, to the State Warning Point/Florida Department of Environmental Protection. Additional agencies notified are Florida Department of Environmental Protection, Pensacola Office, Okaloosa County Health Department, and Okaloosa County Emergency Operations Center. Customers who would like additional information regarding spills of this nature may contact the Okaloosa County Health Department at 850-833-9247. City staff will continue to monitor the spills and work around the clock until normal operating conditions are reached.
